Rudy

Rudy is our only free-range rooster here at SAHH, and quite possibly one of the kindest roosters you will ever meet. This handsome guy takes his responsibilities very seriously. His ladies are always his first priority, and Rudy keeps a watchful eye over them wherever they go. Offer him a handful of snacks and you’ll quickly see what kind of guy he is. Instead of gobbling everything up himself, Rudy makes sure his girls know there are goodies available and encourages them to eat first. “Ladies first” is simply how Rudy lives his life. While his girls forage, explore, and enjoy their day, Rudy is constantly watching. He scans the area for potential predators and anything else that might pose a danger. And if he senses a threat, this normally gentle boy becomes fiercely protective of his flock. But when everything is safe and Rudy knows his ladies are taken care of, he is more than happy to wander over and eat right from your hand — usually with his girls gathered around to share. Roosters are so often misunderstood, but Rudy is a wonderful example of just how intelligent, devoted, protective, and caring they can be. He isn’t just hanging out with a flock of hens. Those are his girls. And Rudy takes very good care of them.
