Nova

In June of 2025, this beautiful girl was found alone in an empty field after suffering a horrific dog attack. Her injuries were extensive and life-threatening. She was taken to the Hesperia shelter, where despite everything she had already endured, she was scheduled to be euthanized. But one kind person refused to let her story end there. They reached out to us asking if we could help save her life — and when we saw the extent of her injuries, we knew she needed us. We named her Nova — our Super Nova. What followed was an incredible journey of veterinary care, wound treatment, medications, patience and healing. Her body had suffered tremendous trauma, but Nova had something even stronger: She wanted to live. Today, when you look at Nova, you can still see evidence of what happened to her. Portions of her ears are missing, and the attack caused significant damage to the muscles around her neck. She may not look exactly like other pigs. But to us, those differences are beautiful. They are proof that she survived. And perhaps the most remarkable thing about Nova isn’t her physical recovery — it’s her heart. After everything humans and the world had thrown at her, Nova chose to trust. She is one of the kindest, most loving and affectionate pigs you could ever meet. She seeks out attention, gives love freely and seems genuinely grateful for every bit of kindness that comes her way. The pig who was once lying injured and alone in a field, with almost no future ahead of her, now has an entire lifetime waiting for her. A lifetime of safety. A lifetime of belly rubs. A lifetime of love. Her scars don’t tell the story of what was done to her. They tell the story of what she overcame. And that is why she will always be our Super Nova.
