Bernie for the “best hair” win!

Bernadette — aka Bernie Bernie came to Saving Animals & Healing Hearts in 2018 as part of a heartbreaking animal hoarding case. She had been living in horrific conditions, and when she arrived at SAHH, she was scared, sad, and unsure of the world around her. She had every reason not to trust people. But animals have the most incredible capacity to forgive. Over the years, Bernie has blossomed into one of the sweetest, friendliest pigs here at the sanctuary. The frightened girl who once arrived not knowing what her future held now seeks out affection, happily flops over for belly rubs, and absolutely loves attention. And then there’s that mohawk. 😂 Bernie has the most incredible natural mohawk, and when she stands it up and shows it off, this girl absolutely SHINES. It fits her personality perfectly — a little sassy, a little adventurous, and completely unforgettable. One of Bernie’s favorite things is wandering the property. Give her an opportunity to explore, and she’s off looking for her next adventure, checking out what everyone else is doing and seeing what kind of fun — or mischief — she might be able to find along the way. Bernie’s life today looks nothing like the life she came from. She is safe. She is loved. She is confident. And most importantly, she knows she belongs. Bernie is a beautiful reminder of why sanctuary matters. We cannot erase what happened before they came to us, but we can make sure that every day that follows is filled with kindness, safety, dignity, and love. And for our beautiful mohawk girl, that means plenty of adventures and an unlimited supply of belly rubs.
